The Wangu Pavilion underwent extensive repair and was completed in 1997 in time for its elevation to the UNESCO World Heritage Site list. However, the place doesn’t show signs that it was quite new. I was surprised to see some folk selling Chinese paintings on some of the floors. I thought the paintings were nice, but I don’t think this was the place to set up shop. Anyway, the whole point of the Wangu Pavilion seems to be purely commercial in nature. The fifth floor seems to be the place to be.

And so it is. The fifth floor of the Wangu Pavilion gives you an unobstructed view of Lijiang Ancient Town. It isn’t really that much different from the view from the other viewpoint, except that this place is higher. The view itself isn’t that jaw dropping but this is exactly why I climbed up five stories for, right? It would have been nice if there were some seats for visitors to relax but then too many tourists might be hanging out on top of the pavilion because of that. I took my photos from the top and head back down.
