The Tiger Leaping Gorge has got to be one of the most rugged scenery I have every visited. The tall mountains and the raging river below make for a very interesting and exciting place to explore. Fortunately, the local authorities here in Yunnan province have made it such that visiting this place Is no longer the dangerous activity that it used to be. The Upper Tiger Leaping Gorge had a nice viewing platform where people can observe the turbulent Yangtze River in safety. It used to be so bad that parts of the old road got swept away by the continued erosion by the powerful current.

By the river, you can really feel the power of the Yangtze River. The constant roar of the river makes it difficult to hear anything else. However, that is part of the fun here. One can observe the Tiger Leaping Gorge through several levels of the viewing platform. Of course the best on would be the one closest to the river. Yes, there are fences which make it difficult to climb over, however a really determined person can make it over the fence with little effort. I don’t know if anyone has tried this before but I don’t think it is a good idea. Anyway, why would anyone pay CNY 50 just to kill themselves when they could have just thrown themselves over the cliff much earlier.
