Claypot Dish to Warm Me on a Cold and Rainy Day in Lijiang Ancient Town 丽江古城

It seemed that I got back to Lijiang Ancient Town a little too early. With the constant drizzle here, there wasn’t much photo taking to be had here. I’m sure I already have more than a few photos with raindrops on them. Fortunately for me it was just the protective cover that is wet. I tried going back to my new hostel but I kept getting lost and ending up in some unfamiliar place. It is times like these that I wish I had a GPS receiver with me. A smartphone would be nice but that would mean I have to deal with Chinese telcos and I didn’t want that. The best way would be to prepare beforehand so as not to get lost in the first place. I have a map with me but it doesn’t show a lot of small alleys which I keep ending up in. My map from my research is even less useful. Maybe it was time to eat.

It just so happened that I ended up at a place where I had lunch the previously. There was a row of similar looking restaurants and I was thinking of visiting the others as well. I ordered pork in some claypot at a strangely named restaurant called Loyal Local Flavor Restaurant 忠义农家饭庄. The dish was perfect for a dreary day like this. The pork meat is stewed in the claypot together with some noodles and broadbeans. I forgot what they called this dish but it seemed more like a peasant dish. It wasn’t the more glamorous dishes here in Yunnan but it was still nice if only for keeping me warm in this cold weather. The dish was rather difficult to finish as well since it had a lot of bones. I wasn’t really in a hurry and I spent some time trying to read what was plastered by customer all over the ceiling and tables of the restaurant. Most of them naturally said the food was great, maybe they just didn’t have this particular dish when they came here.
