Black Dragon Pool seems to offer a lot more things than just the viewpoint to take the famous photo. There is a large park behind the lakes and I was interested to see what is there. There were a lot less people here in this area compared to the viewpoint and I could understand why. For most people visiting the Black Dragon Pool it was only about seeing the pool with the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. I bet they were just as disappointed not to see the mountain as I was and probably head back. It is also possible that most of the people here were part of tour groups which basically got rounded up to come here and take the photo and leave. It would be such a shame not to be able to visit the rest of the park.

I would have to agree that the most interesting part of the park would be the viewpoint. But I think few make the effort to walk all the way to the Five Arches Bridge to see what else it here. For one thing, the pavilion which is part of the famous scene can be seen here. It looks really old and not in excellent shape. It seems that it is badly in need of repair. I think the park authorities already know that which is why it is not possible to visit the pavilion. It is built on a artificial island on the pool and it only accessible by another bridge. I would have been nice to visit the pavilion but due to its small size, it might be better if people don’t.
