One of the more attractive structures here at the Black Dragon Pool is the Five Arch Bridge. The bridge can be clearly seen from tne viewing area together with the pavillion and the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (when it is visible) which together make up one of China’s most striking scenery. The Five Arch Bridge is a very typical Chinese bridge which can occasionally be found in other places, I remember seeing this type of bridge at the Summer Palace 颐和园 at Beijing and at Zhouzhuang 周庄 near Shanghai. It indeed makes for a very pretty scene. These bridges don’t tend to be steep but they tend to be long.

As the name implies the bridge has five arches, it has corresponding holes underneath them to let the water through. It is not very obvious to me if the water was running or not but my understanding was that the waters of the Black Dragon Pool eventually find their way into Lijiang Ancient Town. Possibly sacrificing the Black Dragon Pool in the process since the waters of the ppol have been dangerously low due to a drought.
