I spent the rest of the day just getting my bearings here in Lijiang ancient town. This town is one sprawling town and it was very easy to get lost here as most of the lanes all looked alike. I tried to navigate it without a map but it was difficult. I needed to remember some familiar landmarks; this store here; that restaurant there; that river there. It was a huge challenge and I have been to numerous ancient town, I would have to say this is the most confusing one. I would walk one way and in explicably end up in an unfamiliar part of the town. If you have a lot of time, it is actually fun to get lost here in the town. There is so much to see here.

At night, it was even more of a challenge. I took extra care to remember how to get back. It was really that easy to get lost. There were street signs here but they weren’t really of much help. The signs pointing to various landmarks weren’t that helpful either as I was staying in a more quiet part of town, towards the southern gate of the ancient town. However before all that, I made sure to secure my lodgings for the next few days. I needed to find another one since my room won’t be available two days later. I did enjoy my stay at the Crouching Dragon Guest House I just wished I could have stayed longer.

Anyway, the following day was a rainy day and I didn’t really feel like going out. The dark skies over the town, didn’t really inspire me to go out and explore the town. I knew the town was lovely but without a blue sky, it was difficult to get motivated. I head out for breakfast near the guest house and I thought I wanted something which was local. I saw a store which serves the Crossing the Bridge Noodles 过桥米线 and immediately pounced on it. This noodle dish was featured previously in this blog and it is basically chicken broth with noodles and stuff. The ingredients are served individually including the noodles and the guest is left to dump everything in to the soup, noodles last. It was fun to do that but I guess that it all there is too it. There are numerous variations of this dish with typically more stuff added or slightly different soup or noodles. However, this is a Yunnan specialty and it was imperative that I eat it there.
