Inside the Lamasery at Songzanlin Temple 松赞林寺

It was a bit strange to not see any monks here at the Songzanlin Temple. I have been here for more than an hour and still hardly any sign of them. I was assuming that they were all in their homes below. I didn’t dare to go to the residences for fear of trespassing, though that would have been a strange sight to see a monk go berserk because of a trespasser. There were two major buildings here in the area. I would assume that both are lamaseries. The one on the left seems more forboding with the black flags and all, it had another fence inside so I couldn’t see what was in the building. The other building on the other hand was more open, maybe too open.

Inside the building was a full fledged lamasery. This was where the monks would be chanting and saying their prayers. One could imagine rows and rows of monks doing this and it would have been a mesmerizing sight. That was the problem, I could only imagine it. There was no monk in sight. It seems that the place is under renovation as there were still some construction workers in the lamasery. Most of the lamasery is already finished with the paint practically just left there to dry. It seems that they were preparing this place for the upcoming festival. It would have been nice to be there when that happens but I was on a schedule.
