Walkway to the Crystal Mosque

We asked our taxi driver to bring us to the floating mosque which was something of a famous landmark here at Kuala Terengganu. As the name implies, the mosque is built on top of the water, that would have been an interesting sight. Unfortunately, our taxi driver got his mosques mixed up and we ended up at a different place. This was a place which was near a theme park for Islamic structures, particularly mosques. Our first stop was what we thought was the floating mosque. It was similarly built on the water but this is not the floating mosques which we were looking for. This was the Crystal Mosque. As we can plainly see, the Crystal Mosque is named because of its apparance. Normally mosques have a typical onion bulb dome, this one puts a modern twist to that age old design.

The Cyrstal Mosque gets its name from the glass panels which feature prominently in the dome and the spires of the mosque. I must say that this was quite tastefully done and it gives the mosque a modern edge which isn’t really seen elsewhere. The mosque is also an active mosque as worshippers can be seen entering. We were considering going in the main worship hall but decided against it since it would have to involve leaving our footwear and some cleansing. The exterior of the mosque already looked great so there wasn’t any real need to go in. We were already content to take photos from the outside. The sun was also setting which was giving us some great lighting, I want to see how it looks like at sunset.
