The Senja Bay Resort seems to be a nice place to stay. It was at the end of the beach here at Perhentian Kecil but it was still a short walk away from the jetty. The Senja Bay Resort just so happened to have an available room and upon inspection we took it. The resort seemed to be built completely out of wood and it fit nicely with the forest behind it. Some of the cottages seemed to be quite tall, I was wondering how to get there. As it turns out, the Senja Bay Resort was built something like the Swiss Family Robinsons – tree houses! Some of the cottages were built on the slopes of the hill behind the beach and there was a network of walkways to bring guests to their cottages.

Before entering the walkway, you need to make sure to wash your feet free of sand. Not exactly fun to have sand in you feet when you enter you cottage right? Besides, it would be horribly difficult to clean such rooms if they were full of sand. Building the walkways seemed to be a feat onto itself. They seemed to go from three to four storeys high. Although it is neat to have this kind of setup for your holiday chalet, it would be troublesome to climb four storeys if you managed to land the highest cottage, which by the way isn’t that great anymore since it is further in the forest. You won’t get to see much of the sea anymore from there.

Whohoo!! Western Style Toilets

As for us, we still got a view of the sea, but there was already some forest cover. At least it won’t be very hot here. Our room was a simple but elegant room. The room wasn’t airconditioned but it had electric fans here. We got the room for the price of MYR 80, not bad at all. The room came with a western style toilet, for which I was relieved since Malaysia also uses squat toilets. As for amenities, there was no television, but who cares, the view outside if far more spectacular. Then again, the cottage next door seems to have a long term visitor as it had a washing machine, cable TV and all sorts of modern stuff. I think I will enjoy my stay here.
