Idyllic Perhentian Kecil

Beach Chairs By the Beach at Perhentian Kecil

I really can’t get enough of the wonderful seaside scenery of Perhentian Kecil. This island is on the eastern coast of Peninsular Malaysia and quite near the more famous Pulau Redang. I suspect that Pulau Redang is just as beautiful, just much more expensive than the Perhentian Islands. Almost in the middle of nowhere these islands are like jewels in the blue sea. The island is surrounded by powder white sand not very different from the sand found in more well known places such as Phuket or Boracay in the Philippines. One major difference is the significantly smaller amount of tourists here. This has been my pet peeve for a while, but large numbers of tourist ruin the mood for me.

Would it be too selfish of me to just keep this island all to myself? Already signs of its beauty have been reaching others. If I was not mistaken, I heard mainland Chinese tourists walk past. It is only a matter of time before they overwhelm the island. There isn’t really much you can do here. There are no giant shopping malls here as the island is really very small. What this island does have an abudance of, is chalets or cottages. There are a lot of resorts here where you can stay. They probably serve the mid to low end range of the market, which is just perfect for me as I don’t really demand these kinds of amenities from my acommodations.
