The Shahbandar Jetty was built near what seems to be the city center. There was a small park nearby where people can have a little stroll, but it doesn’t seem to be in good condition. The plants weren’t really well kept and the facilities seemed to be not properly maintained. Maybe it is just that I have been too used to staying in Singapore that I have come to notice these things. In reality, it was still usable, but it could have been better. Anyway, the park just served a place where were would go through to get back to the bus station.

Beside the park was an even larger park, but this one seemed special as it was fenced out. We were wandering outside the gates when I spotted the name of the place – Istana Maziah. From experience, I already knew that the name Istana was something like a palace. So this meant that this was the official palace of the Sultan of Terengganu. Malaysia still has their sultans although they have already been reduced to a mainly ceremonial role much like the rest of the world, much respect is still accorded them. Prime example of which is the vast grounds of the Istana Maziah. This structure seems to be just a little over a hundred years old. I would have loved to see what was inside the palace but it didn’t seem to be open to visitors. Security didn’t seem to be super tight though.
