The Gate of Heavenly Peace at Night in Beijing

One of the most magnificent sights in Beijing is the sight of Tiananmen Square at night. Forget about politics as I would leave that to the experts. Tiananmen Square is the world’s largest square and the governement makes sure to give it the importance its deserves. The buildings around and in the square are all lit up such as the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong and the Monument to the People’s Heroes. Several government buildings around the square was also lit up including some fairly newer ones. However, the one that steals the light show is no doubt the Tiananmen Gate itself.

The Gate of Heavenly Peace or known throughout the world as Tiananmen is most people’s introduction to the Forbidden City. At night, the palace grounds are closed but you can still take photos of the Tiananmen from the outside. Changan Avenue is absolutely majestic with this jewel of a building. This is the center of the Chinese world and as one would expect security it tight around the gate and who can blame them? There weren’t going to be any incidents here and everyone just wants to take photos of the brilliantly lit gate. The Tiananmen East subway station is to the right of the gate. I took my photos and moved on.
