Bird Feeding at Wuyi Square 五一广场

Large Bird House at Taiyuan’s Wuyi Square 五一广场

Wuyi Square in Taiyuan wasn’t the massive squares that can be found in major Chinese cities. This one was a rather modest one by Chinese standards. In fact, it can be considered pleasant in contrast to the large expansive and not to mention intimidating squares in other places. This was more like a park than a square. There were statues in the park which give it a Chinese feel but what I found most amusing was the presence of a large bird house.

The bird house here isn’t your normal small bird houses you build yourself. This is almost industrial sized one, China-sized if you will. The bird house was almost as large as a small human house, and naturally there were a lot of birds in it. Most of the birds here were pigeon and they didn’t seem to mind the presence of humans. I guess they have gotten used to the humans that they treat them as a source of food rather than a threat. You might be surprised to see some birds just resting and sitting on the grass like nothing would happen to them. I don’t think it is wise to enter the bird house as it probably stinks, you can go near it and take a closer look at the birds if you want. Children of all age have a grand time feeding the pigeon in the park.
