Quick Snack at Pingyao Ancient City 平遥古城

My first day at the Pingyao Ancient City in Shanxi province wasn’t really going very well. The hostel staff weren’t very friendly and it was raining for what it seems to be the whole day. The walls of the ancient city match the dreary sky but I don’t think I would be able to take better shots with this kind of sky. One good thing that came from this weather was that there were suprisingly not a large amount of visitors here in the UNESCO heritage site. It would be the weather or maybe something else. Maybe most of them were indoors waiting for the weather to clear.

I was walking along Yamen Street to get my bearings. I was delighted by the ancient city and how well preserved it was. There was a small snack stand nearby which reminded me that I still haven’t had my lunch this late in the day. The snack was call Xiang Cao Rou or fragrant grass meat. I wasn’t sure what it was even after I ate it. It was some kind of spring roll which is the specialty of this region. It wasn’t anything special though I will still have a proper dinner later. This one was only to tide me over.
