Huaiyuan Gate Dwarfed by a Skyscraper Behind It

The Qing dynasty cultural street is built right in front of the Imperial Palace in Shenyang. The street is bordered by two massive gates the Fujin gate is on the eastern end of the street while the Huaiyuan Gate is on the western side. Standing here, you can try to imagine how it must have been centuries back when the Imperial Palace in Shenyang was “the” Imperial Palace. The Huaiyuan Gate marks one of the entrances to the imperial city. The city walls have long been torn down and in their place were modern buildings.

The Huaiyuan Gate looks much like the Fujin Gate on the opposite end of the street. Curiously, there seems to be a hotel on the gate itself. I thought it would be interesting to stay there but the noise will probably be unbearable. This leads me to think that the gate isn’t the original gate but a reconstruction. This is nothing new as a lot of these supposedly old looking buildings are only reconstructions. They can’t possibly build a hotel in a historical landmark, right? Right?
