Well, I finally got tired of the Imperial Palace in Shenyang 沈阳故宫, historic as it was, it looked pretty much like the other historic places I have visited in China, in particular the Forbidden City. Perhaps I’m never really going to totally appreciate these types of places. Or perhaps I should not visit them so often. There was still light outside but the sun was quickly starting to go down. I decided to head out of the imperial palace and see what is so interesting about Shenyang.

The main street outside of the imperial palace is some sort of Qing dynasty themed street, obviously for the tourist crowd. However, on both ends of this street, were two massive city gates which looked intimidating. The city of Shenyang, or Shengjing as it was once known used to have city walls surrounding the city, however much of these walls have been torn down in the city’s march towards progress. The Fujin Gate is on the eastern end of the street and it is a reminder of how it was during the time of the emperors. The foot of the gate is now a road where vehicles and pedestrians pass through. At night, it is lit up by a million lights in typicial Chinese fashion.
