A Reenactment of the Life of Puyi

A Reenactment of the Life of Puyi

The life of the last emperor, Puyi is probably one of the more documented ones in Chinese history. From the moment he was chosen to be the next emperor by his mother, his life has ranged from living like a god to his fall from grace, imprisonment and subsequent “reform”. As a special “guest” of the Puppet Emperor’s Palace where was constantly confined. Much of his public adult life was centered around this facility. The Puppet Emperor’s Palace has several exhibitions with detail how he would entertain guests as the palace, with matching dioramas. There were also a little more private moments where he would be with his concubines.

Probably one of the most outrageous exhibits in the Puppet Emperor’s Palace was the imperial toilet. Puyi was said to have a sensitive stomach and thus would be a favorite customer of the toilet. As a result, it was rumored that he would make decisions from this very toilet. The truth of this story is unknown and could most probably be another way to further humiliate the traitor Puyi. The toilet was only just slightly visible as the room itself, like most of the other rooms, cordoned off.
