Late Lunch at Changchun 长春

It took a while to find a place to stay in Changchun and ended up staying at a relatively pricey Home Inn. After a resting a bit from carrying all my stuff, I head out again to find something to eat. This seems to be a place for travellers so there must be a lot of places to eat here. The other side of the street had a few places to eat there but they didn’t seem to be quite appetizing, nor did they seem clean either. However, this side of the street had a row of eating places nearby. Maybe there is something nice there.

There were a few Chinese restaurants near the Home Inn and I would assume that they also cater for the clients of the hotel. One of the restaurants piqued my curiosity as it had Korean characters displayed outside their store. Jilin shares a border with North Korea and there are a lot of enthic koreans in this province most especially. As a result there is a strong Korean influence in this area and this includes food. Maybe they have something interesting here for me. The restaurant itself wasn’t very large in fact you probably won’t be tempted to enter this place if you didn’t see the sign.

The place seems to specialize in Korean influenced dishes so I tried something which I thought was interesting the Dongmu Family Spare Ribs 东木家排骨. I’m not sure if Dongmu is actually a Korean name but this dish didn’t seem to be Chinese, at least the ones I have been exposed to so far. There were distinctly Korean appetizers like the sweet rice cake and another one was quite Chinese-Korean with bean curd skin kimchi style. The spare ribs wasn’t as nice as it looked in the poster, you could say that it lacked the strong taste I always hanker for in Chinese food. It does seem to be a bit healthier looking since it wasn’t as oily as I normally expect it to be. There are a few more restaurants in this row, maybe I can try some others.
