Much like other touristy parts of China, Zhouzhuang also has its own specialty snacks. Actually, these are more like snacks which are unique to the much larger Jiangnan region where Zhouzhuang lies. Due to their proximity to each other Hangzhou, Suzhou and Shanghai practically have similar snacks. Zhouzhuang being part of Jiangsu province also shares this trait. One thing unique here is that the people of Zhouzhuang actually make their own snacks. There are numerous stalls in the village which sell snacks, you should have no problem finding them.

In contrast to the spicy snacks of the Southwest or the meat snacks of the north, this regions specializes in sweets, not very sweet though. Most of the snacks I saw were based on sesame seeds, white and black. There was also the ubiquitous ginger candy which somehow is popular in China, I never liked them though. For those who are craving for meat, there is always the Wansan Pig Hoof which can be found in any corner of the village. What I like about this place is that you know the snacks are made fresh and there won’t be any deceiving packaging that may be found in other cities. I was just starting my trip and I didn’t want to load up on snacks just yet. Though my friends did buy a few boxes to bring back home.
