First order of business at Xidi was lunch. Our tour guide quickly brought us to the restaurant where we were supposed to have lunch at. The place was empty until it was suddenly filled with tourists, us included. The food seems to have been prepared quickly came out one by one. There were about eight to a table and they weren’t very friendly either as everyone was minding their own business, us included. When the food came, it was a mad scramble for food.

I was waiting for the scrambling for food to subside when my companion urged me to dig in as if saying “They won’t wait for you.” Throwing table manners aside, I also started getting some food. The food wasn’t particularly special either. It was normal Chinese food and it wasn’t even Anhui specialty food. There was one single dish of braised pork and the were were all vegetables or tofu.

In the end, there was enough for everybody, as our tablemates weren’t that voracious after all. It turns out, we were the voracious ones. Whether they noticed or not, was anyone’s guess as they all left soon after eating, leaving us finishing the dishes. That was a good meal after all. I don’t think it actually cost that much either since we were mostly vegetable dishes which were probably grown here.
