The National Stadium in Beijing is truly a marvel of engineering. The impressive exterior of the massive building earned it the name Bird’s Nest Stadium 鸟窝, and there is that uncanny resemblance to it. It turns out that it is quite a fitting name for the place not only for the resemblance but also for what it stands for. Eating Bird’s nest soup is something which is considered at status symbol as it is only eaten during special occasions. Attaching the names Bird’s Nest to the stadium gives it an impression of high quality.

Just like the Water Cube just across the street, the National Stadium is likewise lit up at night. I waited for a while for them to light up the stadium and I was not disappointed. The already marvelous building looks even more magnificent at night. Poor me was struggling to get a good shot of the stadium since I didn’t have a tripod with me. For some reason, I was not able to find it before I left for China. After bumping up the ISO I managed to get a few decent shots of the stadium at night. I felt sorry I didn’t get cleaner version. There were others who brought tripods with them an I was green with envy. Anyway, my cheap tripod won’t be of that much use since it was made for a point and shoot camera.
