My bus from Chengde didn’t take the expressway all the way after all. There weren’t a lot of passengers on the bus thus it was deemed to be too expensive to take the expressway. However, the driver made a compromise, he would take the expressway when we are halfway through. This will help lessen the amount the passengers needed to fork out for the toll fee. As a result, we were able to get back to Beijing within three hours. It wasn’t the two hours that I hoped for, but this one was at least faster than the horrible six hour ride the some days before.

By this time, I was quite familiar with the transport system in Beijing that I already knew what do to. I quickly got back to the hostel and tried to find something to eat. It was already a bit late and I was afraid I won’t find an affordable place to eat here. In the end, I ended up eating at a noodle place. The restaurant seems to specialize in Knife Sliced Noodles 刀削面. The cook has a big ball of dough and uses a knife to slice parts of it into a boiling pot of soup. This is where everything is cooked. The cook then add other ingredients as requested. In my case, I ordered beef tripe, which was okay, I had to hurry to finish my dinner since I was the last one who ordered. The restaurant staff were looking at me funny so I quickly finished my meal and left. Tomorrow is going to be another busy day.
