As one walks down from the Tower of Buddhist Incense, one will pass by some more structures, such as the Hall of Virtuous Splendor 德辉殿, which are reconstructions of older structures. Another one of these halls is the Hall of Dispelling Clouds 排云殿, which was similarly a replacement for an older structure which was destroyed by foreign troops. The original structure was the extremely wordy Hall of the Great Buddha of the Temple of Immense Gratitude and Longevity in the Garden of Clear Ripples 清漪园大报恩延寿寺雄宝殿, try saying that fast.

Inside the Hall of Dispelling Clouds

The Hall of Dispelling Clouds was constructed as a place to celebrate Empress Cixi’s birthdays. Although visitors are not allowed inside the hall, it is open for viewing and on exhibit are some of the gifts which the empress received from politicians and foreign rulers. I thought it was amusing to see how the emperors and empresses would erect structures for something like that but such is the life of emperors.
