Presenting Themselves to the Judges

There were to be five finals that will be held at the Bishan Sports Hall for the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games gymnastics competition. I have already seen two of them and they were so far quite exciting. The competition here is quite good and these gymnasts are certainly no pushovers. The next event is the parallel bars competition. The competition unfortunately, is located at the opposite end of where I was sitting thus quite far.

The parallel bars are a test of strength and coordination of the gymnast. Since much strength is involved, it is only open for the men. The source of the gymnasts powerful arm muscles can be see here as they need to balance their bodies verticallly every now and then. This requires a huge amount of strength and these gymnasts were certainly very skilled at it. There were quite a lot of missteps at the dismount, but you can’t really fault them for that since the entire event is very tiring. Still there were a few who managed to nail the landings.

The gold medal was won by Oleg Stepko from Ukraine redeeming himself from a disappointing performance in the vault. At this point I was already very tired as it was already getting late into the night. I decided to see one last event before I call it quits.
