Melaka at Night

When night falls at Melaka, the fun doesn’t end. Though it may be a sleepy town by some standards. It also has its own share of fun. More specifically, Chinatown becomes even more alive when the sun sets. The entire Jonker Street or Jalan Hang Jebat becomes one long night market, blocking off all traffic. The other roads are thankfully unaffected, as it also becomes a good opportunity to explore Melaka at Night.

Melaka’s historic buildings are lit up be a reddish lamps, apparently trying to get the old town feeling. Actually it feels more like a ghost town in some parts of town since most of these buildings are unoccupied, the town may become a little too quiet, if it weren’t for the constant sound of cars rushing through the narrow streets of Melaka. It would be also noteworthy that although Melaka is best explored on foot, it is not really a pedestrian friendly town. Most of the time you would find yourself walking on the street and keep and eye out for incoming traffic. The drivers here are used to having people walking on the streets so my suggestion is to make sure you don’t hesitate on what you want to do. If you want to cross, cross.
