Journey to Melaka

The bus ride from Larkin Bus Terminal in Johor Bahru was a comfortable one. I have taken numerous long distance bus rides in Malaysia and practically all of them are in relatively luxurious coaches which number three in a row. You can even recline your chair if you want to sleep. The drivers seem to know how to drive these kinds of vehicles that they are not the maniacs that one would normally associate with bus drivers. I even managed to get a couple of hours of sleep on the way to Melaka, after all, I woke up at five in the morning just to be able to get here.

The last time I went to Melaka was around eight years ago and I remember that we went through the second link instead of the way I’m going through now. Either way, I don’t know how to go to second link yet. The highway to Melaka was excellent as ever. I have always been impressed with the Malaysian highways system and how it makes it extremely efficient to bring people from one city to another. I haven’t been through this highway during rush hour so I don’t really how how effective it is in handling large volumes of vehicles.

After three hours of travelling, I finally so a sign with Melaka on it. I thought we finally arrived at the place where I needed to go. But now I realize that sign was for entering the state of Melaka of which its namesake city is found. Getting to the city would probably take me another half hour. After going through a toll gate we finally enter the boundaries of the city of Melaka. My bus then brought us to the sprawling Melaka Sentral which serves as a major transportation hub in Melaka. It is described at the most modern transportation hub in the entire country.

Of course it would have been done a little better but navigating the place is easy enough. I just needed to find the bus that will bring me to the city center itself. One side of the terminal houses buses heading to other states while the other side has buses going to local destinations. The bus to be is bus 17 which as it turns out is a very useful bus as it brings people to a lot of important places in Melaka.
