Travelling to Melaka

The queue at the bus stop just outside Malaysian immigration grew longer until a bus finally came to pick us up. Apparently, the bus drivers peek to see if we are worth picking up or not and only when there are enough people do these buses drive in and pick people up. However, I alreadly lost 30 minutes just waiting for the bus. I wonder if this would have happened had it taken SBS bus 170 instead. I took one of the Malaysian buses at Queen Street.

Anyway, the bus still needed to bring us to the Larkin Bus Terminal from which I will be taking another bus to Melaka. The bus took around 30 mintues to get to Larkin, as it seemed to be in the outskirts of town. After all, it is a long distance bus station. Before this trip, asked a friend of mine how it is to take a bus at Larkin. She only said, “Be careful”. I was puzzled by this answer. I guess she just meant that as long as I keep my wits about me I will be okay. I’m okay with being careful, after all I had a lot of experience with that.

The bus station is basically one huge parking lot filled with buses. The place doesn’t seem to be very modern though unlike the other bus terminals I have seen in Malaysia. Anyway, the fringes of the bus station are ringed with bus companies frantically selling bus tickets to me. The destinations are displayed prominently in front the company’s stall, so it was easy to figure out where to buy from. I don’t think the prices will be that different though given the intense competition or cooperation between the bus companies, whichever the case may be.

I found a bus company which was selling tickets to Melaka for MYR19. I intended to look up the schedules of the bus companies to other places to prepare any future trips to other destinations but the bus company’s staff started calling me and telling me that they have a bus ready to leave. So I had to forget that and do that next time. After all, now that I know how to get here, I can easily come back here and do my research.
