One of Singapore’s and my passions is food. Not surprisingly, the National Museum of Singapore has a gallery dedicated to food. Being a melting pot of races, Singapore has a naturally diverse cuisine of which residents have surely been exposed to. However, probably one of the more prominent food cultures here is Chinese and Malay. The Chinese food culture is particularly strong here and it is familiar to anyone of Chinese descent.

At the National Museum of Singapore, it showcases at lot of old stuff related to food, such at cutlery, cooking utensils and even ingredients. It was interesting to see how much other Chinese foold cultures in other countries have in common with Singapore’s. Figuring prominently at the gallery is a life size mobile food stall on a bicycle. The next room samples a universe of ingredients used in Singapore’s food scene. Some of them even have a tube for visitors to smell the spices, making the gallery rather interactive. The gallery was tastefully done although I didn’t find it terribly interesting.
