Stoic Faces from the Past

Stoic Faces from the Past

The Quest for Immortality Exhibition at the National Museum of Singapore is a truly interesting experience. However, the open house of the National Museum of Singapore also means that the rest of the galleries are also open, even the ones which are normally closed to non-paying patrons. So I took the chance to visit all these other galleries, it’s free. First of these galleries, called Singapore Living Galleries, was Photography, which, I guess, is something close to my heart.

Upon entering the photography exhibit, as you might expect, there was an exhibition of photographs. In this case, they were photographs of people from decades ago. There were a lot of family portraits, which feature rather solemn faces of people from the past. The photos were enlarged and were a typical sepia color which adds to the feeling of bygone age.

In the next room was a camera museum of sorts since there were a lot of cameras on display there. The ones which piqued my interest were the massive and stereotypical ancient cameras used for group photos I would often see on television. It was quite surreal to see all these old equipment. It kind of puts everything in perspective when compared to my “state of the art” digital SLR.
