Shek O Beach

Walking Along Shek O Beach

Probably one of the main reasons why Shek O is such a pleasant place to visit is the presence of Shek O Beach. It is a generous strip of beach off to the side of Shek O town. Shek O beach is not surprisingly a great place to just kick back and relax. I wasn’t really expecting to see a beach here in Shek O town, so I was pleasantly surprised by it. The waves here at Shek O beach are relatively rough and they pound the shore constantly. Not surprisingly, there are a lot of interesting rock formations along the sides of the beach as a result of years of erosion.

Surprisingly though, at the time of my visit, there weren’t a lot of visitors are Shek O Beach, there was a family or two but it is nothing compared to a Phuket or a Boracay. But to the few who dared come here this time of the year will be rewarded by the beach since it is almost deserted. As a rseult of the powerful waves crashing onto the shore, surfing is a popular activity here. I would never do that since I was not a good swimmer to begin with.

Another interesting thing I found out about Shek O Beach is that it makes a great pre-nuptial photoshoot location. True enough, there were at least six different couples having their photoshoot during my visit. What are the odds of that? Either I was extremely lucky to see 6 of them all in one go, or Shek O Beach is really that popular for this kind of thing. I would see their point since there were hardly any other people along the beach and it would be easy to get a decent photo here. Probably the only other people you can see in your photoshoot would be other couples doing their photoshoot.

Alas, it probably wasn’t the beach season anyway, since there weren’t any shops open at that time. While the sun was setting down behind the mountains of Shek O Country Park, we decided to hurry up and make use of the remaining light.
