Hiking on the Dragon’s Back

Stupendous Views from the Dragon's Back

Stupendous Views from the Dragon's Back

Well, we finally broke through the forest and we were now officially on the Dragon’s Back. The Dragon’s Back, as you might have guessed it so named because of its supposed similarity to a dragon’s back when viewed from the ground. I thought this was a rather common name given by the Chinese since was last visited China where I walked on the Dragon’s Backbone Longji Rice Terraces in Guangxi Province. Similar to the rice terraces, this Dragon’s Back in Hong Kong offered stupendous views of the sea and the surrounding towns.

The Dragon’s Back basically traces the back of a supposed dragon and most of the path is elevated with the path bringing us from peak to peak. The views are stupendous and you get to see the neighboring Tai Long Wan or Big Wave Bay. The sea is a wonderful shade of blue. While off to the right is the small town of Shek O. At the time of my visit the weather was still cool, but being on top of a mountain range, it was significantly colder here. The wind was quite strong since we were on top of a mountain and the mountain was pushing the winds up.

I was pleasantly surprised as to how great this hike was. The hike through the forest was so-so, but once on the Dragon’s Back, it just breathtaking. The slopes were not very steep and they are perfect for the not so fit people like me. Either way, the fresh sea breeze will surely take away any bit of fatigue you have.
