Inside the Manila Ocean Park

Viewing Area at the Manila Ocean Park

When I visited the Manila Ocean Park the first time, it came across to me like it was a large construction area with an oceanarium in the middle. The oceanarium was obviously rushed to get the money flowing in while the rest of the structure is still under construction. I think I can accept that. Fast forward two years, the place still looks like a construction zone with a lot more developed areas, specifically the retail areas and the restaurant area.

On the top floor, you can get a glimpse of the top of the oceanarium with sharks coming tantalizingly close to the viewers. On one side there is a glass bottom boat ride though I don’t know what you can see there since the pool is quite dark. Off to the other side is what is probably the first fish spa place in the Philippines. There are pools of water with fish in it and there are seats around the pool to let patrons dip the feet in to the water for the fish to clean up any dead skin cells. I have seen this in Singapore an I still think it is a novelty with no real benefits. To think it would reach all the way here too.

Anyway, the entire area isn’t really that well made. Although there are large viewing areas here, somehow it is still dark. The monobloc chair scattered all around the area do not help either. It doesn’t seem to be professionally managed. I think it is such a shame that something so new has already become like this. It seems that the builders have scrimped and instead focused on the making the money makers, that is restaurant area better. More on that in the next post.
