One of the more imposing buildings in the Intramuros complex is the Palacio del Gobernador. As the name implied, this used to be the site where the governor general of the Philippines held office. Before that, it was the residence of the secretary to the governor general at the time until he was imprisoned and the property confiscated. Numerous branches of the Spanish government also held office here. The structure you see now is not the original structure, as original structure was damaged by an earthquake, while another earthquake effectively stopped all restoration activities. Since then, the governor general decided to move his office to Malacanang Palace, where the seat of government is today.
