When in the Philippines, I try to make it a point to go out of town. After all, I don’t want to be staying in Manila too long lest the pollution gets to me. This time around, something came up that needed my attention and I wasn’t able to go out of town as I planned. When issue was finally resolved, I only had one day left for myself but I was still determined to go out of town. With only a day’s notice, I decided to make my way to the mountain city of Tagaytay in Cavite province.

Tagaytay is a short one and a half hour drive from Manila, probably shorter if the bus didn’t keep stopping for passengers. Due to its proximity to Manila, it has become an alternative mountain resort to Baguio City which is still a good 6-8 hours away from Manila by bus. Unfotunately for me, I didn’t wake up as early as I wanted to and only left Manila 7 in the morning. Being out of the plan, I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do there in the first place.

So I decided to visit one of the more well known places in Tagaytay City. Tagaytay City is a mountain resort and is naturally known for its cool climate, though not as cool as Baguio City though. At night the temperature and be really nice and in the cooler months of December and January, it can become cold – for Philippine standards. Also being a mountain resort it has sweeping view of the surrounding area and it is thus popular for the folk in Manila to come visit for a weekend.

The People’s Park in the Sky is one of the more well known landmarks in the city. Based on instructions from a security guard, I took a jeepney from a terminal further back from the main rotunda where the bus dropped me off, also known as Olivarez. As usual, to save gas, the jeepney is filled up with passengers before leaving. This is not my first time to the People’s Park in the Sky though it has been years since I last visited this place. It would be interesting to see how this place has changed.
