Eating at Siam Paragon

It would seem that Siam Paragon would be the worst place in Bangkok for me to get some affordable food. As I was exploring the fancy shopping mall, I chanced upon their food court which serves a variety of food, at affordable prices. I’m no stranger to this kind of setup and it actually is quite convenient to have so many eating places all in one place. However, this place comes with a twist, customers pay by card. Not a credit card but a card which is issued by the food court itself.

The card can be obtained free of charge from the counter at the food court and you need to put money in it. The card is then swiped by the food stall in case you are interested in their food. Not really cashless shopping but close. This was quite similar to the system employed by the food court at the Bangkok international airport, but instead of coupons, you get a card. I still don’t get why the food court needs to be operated this way. Perhaps it is because the food court needs to get a commission from every food purchase made by customers, and this is the only way to ensure accuracy? Anyway, customers can refund and money left inside the card at the same counter.

Anyway, I ordered a Thai classic, basil chicken. I’ve had Thai basil chicken several times and I don’t really mind eating it. I’ve hardly ordered any of the classic Thai dishes in this trip and I had to have it in the food court of all places. Well, I get what I pay for. The chicken wasn’t really spectacular, in any other country, I would have been raving about it but this is Thailand, and I guess I was expecting a little bit more on this. I’ve sure there are better places to have it here in Bangkok and I’ve sure they will be much better.
