The Motherland Inn II

Despite having slept like a log in White House Hotel in Yangon, I needed to move out the next day. No, I wasn’t really moving out of town but I was switching hotels. The White house Hotel was an okay place to stay given the price you pay but I needed something else. One of the highly recommended places to stay in Yangon is the Motherland Inn II. In fact, this is probably the best place to stay in in Yangon, most especially if you are a backpacker like I am.

Unlike the White House Hotel, the Motherland Inn II is not located downtown. It is a fair distance from the White House Hotel, but I think I can still manage to walk to it. Fortunately, the maps are easy enough to follow and I only asked for directions when I was already right across it. The Motherland Inn II is a wonderful little house with a lot of rooms. The place is very well kept and it has 24 hour electricity! The bedrooms are also well kept and they have airconditioning and television, and it works!

I was thoroughly pleased with the Motherland Inn II that even though it is a little more expensive than the others I have stayed in, I believe it is worth every single kyat you have left. The staff is also exceedingly friendly and are willing to give you directions. Downstairs is a computer center where you can surf (if you can) for a minimal fee. Just beyond the computer center is the dining area with television where you can watch DVDs with the other travellers, and there will be a lot of them. I would highly recommend making reservations since choosing Motherland Inn II to stay in Yangon is really a no-brainer.

So why did I choose to stay in Motherland Inn? Yes, the rooms are much better, the area is much quieter but most importantly for me, there is a shuttle service from Motherland Inn II to the airport, since they pick up a lot of guests from the airport, it won’t be a huge deal to bring guests back to the airport. And since I didn’t want to be bothered with finding out how to get to the airport, this would be the best option for me, since it was free to begin with. Motherland Inn II is really excellent value, probably the best place to stay in Yangon.
