Next along the long line of temples in the Bagan Archeological Zone is the Shwegugyi Temple. Up to now the temples I have been visiting are either in the Nyaung U area or Old Bagan. There are still other towns which have impressive temples but my horse cart driver can only bring me to a few, or rather, I only paid enough to get me to those places. If you have time you can try to explore the Bagan Archeological Zone by bicycle or even by walking.

The Shwegugyi Temple was built in the 1140 AD. And unlike most of the temples I have visited, the Shwegugyi temple is a little more modest. It is located though in a significant place being right in front of what was once the royal palace. The builder of the temple was King Alaungsithu, who was later killed by his own son in his old age.

It should be obvious by now that I was already beginning to suffer from temple fatigue, after all visiting one temple after another is no joke and it is very easy to get templed-out. Fortunately, my driver manage to bring me to the more interesting ones, each one different from the other, minimizing temple fatigue. I guess if I am templed-out, I can’t imagine how my driver feels.
