After that flight from Singapore to Bangkok, I was severely in need of some food. After all, Bangkok is behind Singapore by an hour and it was already 8:30pm locally. I was going through the floors of the massive airport hoping to find a nice place to eat here. I can say that I am a big fan of Thai food and I was looking forward to their food. The restaurants at the terminal building were mostly catering to western tastes and none of them interested me. There were a handful of Chinese restaurants, but I can easily get them anywhere in Singapore. Besides, those restaurants were all packed.

When I got to the ground floor of the terminal building, I noticed a small door which led to their food court. This was the place I was looking for. The food court has around 10 stalls serving Thai food. As I walked in front of the stalls, I was spoilt for choice since they look really good and I wanted to try them all. Of course I could only eat so much in a meal. The food court here has an interesting system. Customers need to go to the counter in front to purchase some coupons which you “pay” to the stall owners. I don’t really get why they can’t we just pay directly. But maybe this is a way for the food court to know how much the stalls are making.

I ordered some interesting looking fried papaya salad and some spicy minced meat. The papaya salad is basically shredded papaya fried to a crisp. There is some sweet chili sauce to add flavor to the salad. It was remarkably tasty. The papaya itself doesn’t have much flavor but the sweet chili sauce just bursts so much flavor in the mouth. I was really very satisfied with that meal, it wasn’t that filling though. Good thing I still had some spicy minced meat. It was relatively okay, though I thought it was a little bit cold. Maybe it was supposed to be like that. Who knows.

The food court clientele consists mostly of local tourists and even the airport and airline employees. Once in a while you would see some foreigners stumbling into the food court. The place was small but clean. And despite being a little small, the food court didn’t feel crowded. Prices at the food court were great too, proving how much of a bargain Bangkok can be.

One downside here though is that the staff doesn’t seem to speak a lot of English. Well, I could just get around with hand signals. The food court of the airport terminal may seem like a strange place to be having dinner on a trip like this one, but I was thoroughly satisfied with it. For people who are on a budget and want good food, this would be the best place to go.
