Just across the massive SM City North Edsa, is the Trinoma Mall. The strangely constructed name stands for Triangle North of Manila. The mall is owned by the Ayala Corporation, one of the largest property firms in the Philippines. The mall is a relative new comer being built only in 2007 to compete against SM City just across the road. It is actually sitting on top of the Metro Rail Transit III depot, and since it is at the terminus of the MRT III, it sees a lot of pedestrian traffic.

Actually Trinoma got a good deal since they are directly connected to the MRT line. SM has a penchant for not agreeing to connect to the public transport system, though that may change with the MRT III extension line. Though it is nowhere near as massive as the SM City, it is still large by any means. It has a large atrium for activities, much like how the Glorietta in Makati City is, but with only half and atrium.

At the roof, the is a small park where people can relax. It is also here where the touch of Ayala’s Greenbelt Mall comes into play, and the similarity with Greenbelt is quite uncanny. This is something which SM can learn since most of their malls are just packing in the shops but with little else to offer. As expected, Trinoma has a huge amount of traffic, though a lot of these traffic are merely passing through the mall on their way either to SM City or to their connecting ride.

Trinoma is a mall designed for the masses unlike Greenbelt Mall which is obviously for the well to do people. The shops in the mall are generally the more affordable ones. Of course, there are still the more upscale restaurants but it is more modest in general.
