As we were going out from the Church of Saint Augustine in Panglao town, we passed by this small structure just to the left of the main church building. It turns out that this is the original site of the main church building. The new and bigger structure was built much later by the Spanish priests. Nothing much is left from the old church but a small facade. The old facade is now serves as a small chapel for the people.
A small extension has been attached to the old structure and pews are now laid in front. This is all open air so there is no shelter from the intense summer heat. I find it interesting how the locals managed to salvage the old building and use it for a different purpose. Much of the facade is still there though but the small fence and seats are starting to crowd out the old church. It was late afternoon so the surround trees were already giving a nice cool shade. I’m already burned quite badly and I think I really deserve this.
