The Church of Saint Augustine in Panglao

My final church here in my trip is the Church of Saint Augustine in Panglao town. The town of Panglao is still a fair bit of distance from the town of Bingag where the Hinagdanan Caves were. As agreed, my driver dutifully brought me there with little hassle. As I wanted to get off, and about to pay him. He asked where I was going and I mentioned that I will be staying in Alona Beach, he proposed that for another 50 pesos he would bring me all the way there. I figured that I might as well go all the way to Alona beach on this habal-habal since he has been quite helpful to me.

Behind the Church

Behind the Church

The Church of Saint Augustine in Panglao town is a massive church by the sea. It just like the most of the churches in Bohol, are old, in this case, it is built in the early 1800s. The massive church has graceful arches that support the church, and the bright red color of the roof helps improve the look. Unlike the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption in Dauis, this one doesn’t seem to be in as good condition as the other one. The paint is peeling all over the place. In front there is a large plaza which is als part of a public park.

Conforming with the standard Spanish town, Panglao has the church at the center of the town. Now there is a school to the right of the church, which means there are also a lot of children here. I wouldn’t be too hard to imagine how this park can come alive every Sunday. There are no malls or shopping centers to distract the people here but just good old fashioned walk in the park.
