The town immediately across the small land bridge from Barangay Bool is the town of Daius in the island of Panglao. As I made my way through the small town, I caught sight of its most important structure – the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption. It may seem that all Bohol is about are churches. That may be an understatement since the island is dotted with these old buildings from the Spanish era. Interestingly enough, there didn’t seem to be much Spanish buildings other than the churches or maybe I just missed them. Anyway, the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption in Dauis is yet another example of these buildings as a legacy of the Spanish.

The church is quite an old church built in the late 1600s. It is known to the locals by its Spanish name – La SeƱora de la Asuncion de Dauis. The facade of the church is semi-modern and interestingly, the belltower shows some Moorish influence. Among the churches I have visited in Bohol, I would consider this the prettiest and the most elegant. So far, this church has been one of the more unique ones and it certainly impressive. The church has a nice plaza in front for activities and it sit right next to the town hall. It would be certain that this area would be considered the central area for the town.

The main door of the church was closed so I had to just walk around the church again. Despite its age, the church really seems to be well maintained as compared to the other churches from the same age. The walls are all made of coral stone and white washed free of any mold that be seen in the other churches. Despite the searing heat, I really appreciated this place, and unlike the other town, this one seems even more sleepy than the last one. Or maybe it was just the afternoon sun.
