Crossing the Tagbilaran Strait

After the visiting the Blood Compact Shrine, I am by no means complete in the list of place to visit in Bohol. There are still a lot of other small town worth visiting but because of time constraints, these are the only ones I was able to visit. Now my plan was to go from the Blood Compact Shrine to Panglao Island. I remember the multi-cab driver telling me where to get public transportation from the Shrine to Panglao Island.

I just needed to walk from the shrine to the junction where the Caltex station was and wait for transportation there. True enough it was just as he described. However, curiosity got the better of me and I started to walk down the road where the multi-cabs are supposed to pass by. The road was flanked by rows of wooden houses until it gave way to the bridge the crossed the Tagbilaran Strait. The bridge wasn’t really a bridge but more of piece of land filled up to connect Bohol Island with the neighboring island of Panglao. However, the road wasn’t really in great shape and it under heavy construction. Nevertheless, a lot of vehicles pass through this place every day.

The land bridge borders the shallow harbor of Tagbilaran City and the shimmering blue waters of the Bohol Sea. For me the more interesting side was the one with the Bohol Sea. There were some outrigger canoes parked here already done with their fish in the morning. The sea itself is a wonderful shade of blue with the deep parts showing the most. The path of the water through the strait can be clearly seen from here. There also seems to some parts of a new bridge taking form but these will probably take ages to complete.

The bridge wasn’t really that long and one can easily walk from Bohol Island to Panglao in a matter of minutes. However, the afternoon sun is really strong and the heat is really getting to me. With absolutely no shade at all, I had to make my way across the strait. However, seeing the beautiful waters of Tagbilaran Strait made me think it was all worth the sunburn.
