Just outside the Sagada Guest House is the main “square” of Sagada. This is where practically everything happens. The weekend market is held here where villagers come here to sell their produce. Their products are known for the freshness. Little wonder given the clean and cool climate they have here. If ever they need to worry about anything it is frost especially in the colder months of December – February.

The Dining Area

The Dining Area

Beside this main square is a small cafeteria where I decided to get breakfast. The name of the place is Ganduyan Inn and Cafe, the cozy interiors of their dining area caught my eye. They had nicely varnished traditional style dining tables. The chairs are made of bamboo. The color of the place is very appealing, though it may be a bit bare, but it is bright.

I ordered a traditional Filipino breakfast called longsilog. The name longsilog is an artificial word taken from the names of the three different components of the dish. “Long” comes from longganisa, which is basically Filipino style sausage. “Si” comes from sinangag which is the wonderful garlic fried rice that always comes with it. “Log” comes from “itlog” which is egg. There can be different variations of this dish with the first syllable changing according to the stuff they use.

I also tried their so called mountain tea. It was the first time I have heard of Philippines having a tea of its own. They probably just ask the kids to go and pick up these tea leaves from the forest and then they make tea out of it. I have no idea what the tea is made of though. The tea was surprisingly nice has a nice clean taste. I thought they should come up with a name better than “mountain tea” though since it sounds generic.

Ganduyan Inn and Cafe obviously also has their own inn. I didn’t get to see their accommodations though so I can’t be sure of the quality. But judging from their dining area, I don’t think it would be a bad choice to stay here either.
