TurboJET 噴射飛航 to Macau 澳门

Next day is the day I left Hong Kong, but before that, my friend and I went for some brunch at a nice dimsum place somewhere in Causeway Bay. It was typical dimsum fare nothing really special here. I was leaving Hong Kong via TurboJET 噴射飛航 to Macau 澳门. The ferry terminal is in Central so we needed to eat up and go to the ferry terminal fast.

The ferry terminal was a large facility but it is showing its age. In contrast of the other transportation facilities of Hong Kong, this one is ancient. Okay, except for the Star Ferry terminal, hey, even that got a facelift. There is a little shopping area in the terminal but nothing really interesting. Most of which are travel agents offering packages to Macau.

Not before long, I bid my friend farewell and thanking him for letting me stay at his place for a few days. I won’t be seeing him anytime soon, unless he decides to visit Singapore. The ferry I will be taking is already waiting, I was mildly surprised to see a nice catamaran hydrofoil waiting for me. Inside was even a better surprise. The inside of the ship is nicely decorated with a hotel-like ambience. There is a second floor but I was assigned to the first floor. Having been the Hong Kong ferries numerous times, I was expecting a more “Star Ferry” or “First Ferry”-like ambience but this is surprising.

I left my bag at the baggage area of the ship and proceeded to my seat. The seat looked like it was ripped off an airplane. Fortunately for me, I didn’t have any passengers beside me so I had the seats all to myself. The ship started its powerful engines and we were off. It was definitely fast. Hong Kong island just seemed to fade away so quickly and not before long we were already in open sea.

Nothing Really to See In Front

Nothing really happened for the next hour but just when we were approaching Macau, our ship ground to stop for more than 30 minutes. The crew didn’t really say what the delay was for but I assumed it was because of traffic. Traffic between Hong Kong and Macau is very high so I guess it is not unusual to have delays like this much like an airplane circles around waiting to land. My only worry is that I might miss my flight from Macau back to Singapore because of the delay.

But not before long, the engine started again for real and we docked at the Macau ferry terminal. Macau was very foggy that day and I couldn’t really take any photos because of this. I would love to visit Macau sometime in the future if only for its historic center which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site fairly recently. Macau is easy enough to get to anyway. After getting some Macau Patacas for my transportation, I got a bus to the airport. Apparently it is quite a distance to the airport, I was lucky the delay wasn’t any longer. Fortunately, I easily checked in and soon as on my way to Singapore.
