You can forgive the Chinese for making the Dujiangyan Irrigation Project more than what is it. After all it is just a dam. However, the nice gardens within the park make for a really nice stroll. Yet, it was still a fair bit of walking to the project itself. But it was okay, we were in no hurry, we just need to get back to Chengdu by lunch time to catch our bus to Jiuzhaigou.

It is really a wonder how Sichuan province is blessed with 6 different UNESCO World Heritage Sites. It is also one of the primary reasons why we decided to visit this region in China. It is not overly touristy yet, unlike lot of places in the eastern coast. However, the Chinese know about the treasures of Sichuan and have come in droves.

But not now, it was still too early. We were hoping for something like this since it would be easier to take photos without jostling for position with the other Chinese tourists. Fortunately, they haven’t been the nightmare that I have been dreading. Even the people I meet on the streets have been nice and very helpful to us. There were still a few bad habits which I really detest, but these should not ruin my trip.

Bridge to the Irrigation Project

Finally, our destination was in sight. There is hanging bridge which brings us to the project itself. It crosses a river with quite a strong current. The people walking on the bridge were somehow stuck in the middle, I couldn’t tell whether they were scared or were just playing on the bridge. Anyway, we quickly bypassed them and were on our way to see the project up close.
