Welcome to the Sentosa Flowers 2009

As part fo the Lunar New Year Celebrations in Singapore. Singapore held their annual flower festival in the resort island of Sentosa. I haven’t been in Sentosa in a while, last time I was there there was a lot of construction going on, especially on the side fronting Vivo City. For lack of anything better to do in the Lunar New Year Holidays, I decided to pay this Sentosa Flowers 2009 a visit.

I wasn’t really expecting much from this flower festival except of course flowers. This year was supposed to be a little different since it will be much bigger and thus they are able to hold it in two different parts of the island – Imbiah and Palawan beach area.

I first got to the Palawan beach area, I caught a glimpse of the flowers in the area and felt a tinge of excitement. However, my excitement was short lived since only the paths were lined with different kinds of flowers. I am not a flower buff so I won’t bother enumerating the ones I saw. It was OK, but I won’t really call it a flower festival since there wasn’t really much to see in the first place. There was a section where students exhibit their art with flowers. Amateurish might be too nice a word for it but that’s how I would describe there display in the Palawan beach area.

Upon finding out that there was another display site, I made off in search of it. I passed by the beach areas of Sentosa. The sky was quite cloudy and wasn’t really a nice day to go to the beach. In fact, it there was even a slight drizzle. At least it won’t be too hot. I walked past the beach area until I couldn’t go any further since there was a big development at the end of the road. So I made my way back.

Finally I found the way to the Imbiah area, it was near the Merlion statue and it seems this was where all the action was, since there were a lot more people here than the Palawan beach area. The flower exhibits were all here. With scenes made up of flowers. And since this was supposed to be related to the Lunar New Year of the Ox, there were special displays which include the ox.

There was a special section for the national flower of Singapore, the Vanda Miss Joaqium, a hybrid orchid. There were other displays with the ground carpeted with different colored flowers. It was actually quite nice. Now that I have seen this, I could say that this flower festival can be called okay. Though I still won’t come here if I have something more interesting to do. Maybe next year’s Sentosa Flowers will be better.
