After a wonderful night at the Chongqing Nanbin International Youth Hostel, I slept like a log, we checked out and asked the staff how to get to our next destination. It turns out that the Caiyuanba bus station is really handy as it seems to have buses that go all over the place. We took a cab and went there. As usual, I had to figure out how to get to our destination, fortunately there were buses going directly to our destination.
We purchased our tickets and since it would take a while before the bus leaves, we went to the next door canteen to find something to eat. The according to the guide books the trip should take only around 3 hours, shouldn’t take that long to get there and we would be there by lunch time. We ordered spicy noodles at the canteen and some dough sticks 油条. It should be good enough to last us until lunch time.
While waiting at the canteen, we got to see an amusing sight. There was this old man that approached us with what appeared to be a shoe cleaning kit. He asked us whether we wanted to have our shoes cleaned. We politely declined. But he went to another customer who agreed. It took the man a few minutes to shine the shoes of the customer. We were also looking on amusedly. I guess despite the rapid modernization of China, there will still be people who will be left out. And it seems to this man shining shoes while on the go is one way of earning money.
This gave us some food for thought while we await our bus ride.
