The Village of Bangaan Nestled in the Valley Below

We finally reached the village of Bangaan after a four hour hike from the village of Batad. Actually, we arrived at the inn where we were supposed to have lunch. It is again on a ridge overlooking the valley below where the actually village lies. It is the perfect location to view the Bangaan Rice Terraces.

Layers of Rice Terraces in Bangaan

Yes, the village of Bangaan also has their own set of majestic rice terraces. Unlike the Batad Rice Terraces, which has a more ampitheater-like layout of terraces, the rice terraces of Bangaan has a more expansive yet layered arrangement. Like the other rice terraces in the area, they were also built two thousand years ago. It is amazing to see how the ancient Filipinos adapted ther lives to their environment, most notably the shape of the terraces.

We didn’t have time to really explore the rice terraces of Bangaan since we need to get back to Banaue after lunch. It was too bad since I would have loved to explore it in more detail even if it means I would have to climb up and down the valley again.

Since we just came from the village of Batad, we needed to rest out legs first, but most importantly, have lunch. Even though the hike was relatively easy, it still sapped my strength. But it is nothing a wonderful lunch won’t fix.

Was the second photo taken from that inn on the ridge? I want to see the Bangaan Terraces but cannot spend time hiking down into the valley. How far off of the road was the inn and what was its name?

Thanking you in advance.

yes, it was taken from ridge. the name of the inn was family inn and restaurant. you can’t miss it since it is right along the main walking path. unfortunately, i do not know about the state of the roads there since the twin typhoons that hit the country not too long ago. you might want to find out whether there have been landslides because of the incessant rains. thanks for visiting!

banaue is usually explored on its own usually either at the start of at the end of the trip. more adventour folk would trek from banaue to batad and the surrounding area over several days. it is something i haven’t tried yet. banaue is almost an hour away by tricycle from the town to the junction where the hike to batad starts. from here you can then hire a jeepney (if you see one) to bring you up mountain to the stairs down to batad, or you can tough it out and just walk from the junction around the mountain for around two hours to the viewpoint. it is around 45 minutes down the village of batad from there. people usually visit batad and bangaan by a nice 4-5 hour hike along the mountain. from batad you take the trail to bangaan, ask around, everybody knows where it is, then from there is it just a short hike to the junction. i would highly recommend the hike, since it is mostly flat. if you made it to batad and explored the falls and hanging bridge, this hike will not be a problem for you.

thanks for visiting!
