Neak Pean

Neak Pean

Neak Pean

Near the Preah Khan is a unique temple. In fact, the word temple might not be an appropriate description for it. Neak Pean is an island in the center of a complex of pools. Right now, only five of the pools have been restored. There is no water in the pool now, but it must have been impressive in its heyday.

There are four pools in the north, south, east and west of the the main pool of Neak Pean. At the center is an artificial island with a lone prasat on top. The base of the prasat has some sort of serpent coiling around it, with the prasat itself crowned by a lotus flower. Just near the lone prasat is a statue of a horse.

It was quite refreshing to see a temple with a totally different layout since most of the ones I’ve been to were more or less similar to each other.
